Hyaluronidase
Dissolves a hyaluronic acid filler that does not suit you, has migrated or has formed an irregularity. The result is judged within 24 to 48 hours, in a single session in most cases.
The treatment
What is
Hyaluronidase?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid. It is the antidote to every hyaluronic acid filler, and it is what makes these products particularly safe: an injection that does not suit you is never permanent.
The reasons for using it vary. Most often it is a result the patient dislikes: too much volume, asymmetry, over-defined lips. Sometimes the product has migrated over the years away from where it was placed, which is common around the lips and under the eyes. It can also form a small palpable lump or give a bluish tint under thin skin. This is a recognised phenomenon caused by the way light passes through the gel.
It also has a far more important emergency use: if product has been injected by mistake into a blood vessel and is compromising the blood supply to the skin, immediate injection of hyaluronidase can save the tissue. This is why every practice performing injections must keep it on site.
At the Petit-Lancy clinic, the consultation first establishes whether what bothers you really does come from a filler. That is not always the case: puffiness under the eyes can also be a fat pad or fluid retention. The physician will tell you honestly rather than dissolve unnecessarily.
Two limits to know about. The enzyme does not discriminate: it also dissolves some of your own natural hyaluronic acid, which your skin rebuilds within a few weeks. And it has no effect on products that are not hyaluronic acid based.
The physician will also explain what to expect afterwards, since the area almost always swells noticeably for a day or two before settling.

How it works
The treatment
process.
Prior consultation
Report any allergy, particularly to bee or wasp stings, as well as pregnancy or breastfeeding. Bring whatever information you have about the product injected and the date it was done. Avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatories for 48 hours. The physician may suggest a prior skin test depending on your history. Plan the session well away from an important event, as the area often swells noticeably for one to two days.
Application of the treatment
The physician palpates the area to locate the product precisely, sometimes with the help of ultrasound. After disinfection, the enzyme is injected directly into the deposit to be treated, at several small points. Massage follows to distribute it properly. The session is short. You often see a visible reduction before you even leave the clinic.
Post-Procedure Care & Follow-Up
The area almost always swells for 24 to 48 hours, sometimes strikingly: this is expected and temporary. Bruising is possible. Apply cold if needed and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and sun for 48 hours. Wait at least two weeks before any new hyaluronic acid injection in the area. Sleep with your head slightly raised on the first night.
