The treatment

What is
PRP : face and hair?

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a regenerative treatment that uses your own blood as its raw material. The principle is straightforward: a small amount of blood is drawn, the fraction most concentrated in platelets is isolated by centrifugation, and it is then re-injected where the skin or scalp needs stimulating.

Platelets do more than clot. They contain growth factors, the molecules the body naturally releases to repair damaged tissue. By concentrating them and placing them precisely where they are needed, this repair mechanism is reactivated locally: collagen production, new blood vessel formation, better tissue quality.

On the face, PRP improves skin firmness and thickness, softens acne scarring and restores radiance to a dull or tired complexion. It is particularly suited to delicate areas such as the eye contour and neck, where the aim is to improve skin quality rather than restore volume. On the scalp, it addresses thinning hair and progressive hair loss, in women as well as men, by acting on follicles that are still active.

Its main strength lies in its origin. Because the product comes from you, there is no allergy risk and no foreign body introduced into the system. This is often what convinces patients who are reluctant to have dermal filler injections.

At the ono estetika clinic in Petit-Lancy, the protocol is tailored to the indication: a course of four sessions one month apart for the face, and a course of six sessions for the scalp, which responds more slowly and requires prolonged stimulation. In both cases, maintenance two to three times a year preserves the benefit. The initial consultation is a genuine medical assessment: the physician evaluates the indication, looks for an underlying cause of hair loss, iron deficiency, thyroid disorder, hormonal factor and tells you clearly what PRP can achieve in your situation, and what it will not. Where an area is permanently bald, there is no follicle left to stimulate.

How it works

The treatment
process.

01
Before

Hydrate well the day before and on the morning of your appointment, and do not come fasting: the quality of the sample depends directly on it. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and anti-inflammatories for five days, as they reduce platelet activity. Tell the physician about any clotting disorder, anticoagulant therapy, blood disease, cancer under treatment, active infection or pregnancy. Come with clean, unstyled hair if the scalp is being treated.

02
During

The physician takes a blood sample from the crook of the elbow, exactly as in a laboratory test. The tube is placed in a centrifuge for around ten minutes, separating the platelet-rich plasma from the other blood components. Meanwhile, the anaesthetic cream applied at the start of the session takes effect. The plasma is then re-injected through micro-injections spaced evenly across the treatment area, or combined with microneedling on the face to improve its diffusion into the dermis. The entire preparation takes place in a closed, sterile system.

03
After

Redness, warmth and slight swelling last a few hours and resolve on their own. Do not wash your hair for twelve hours after a scalp session, and avoid make-up for twelve hours after a facial session. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and sun exposure for 48 hours. Do not take anti-inflammatories in the following days, so as not to interfere with the regeneration process.

Frequently asked questions

What you'd like
to know before your session.

Is my own blood really used?+
Yes. A small amount is drawn at the start of the session, as in a routine blood test, then centrifuged to isolate the platelet-rich fraction. Only that fraction is re-injected.
Does PRP make hair grow back?+
It improves the density and thickness of existing hair and can slow ongoing loss by stimulating follicles that are still active. Where an area is permanently bald, there is no follicle left to stimulate.
How long before results appear?+
Three to four weeks on the face. Three to six months for hair: this is the length of the hair cycle and no treatment can speed it up.
How many sessions are needed?+
Four sessions one month apart for the face, six for the scalp, which responds more slowly. Maintenance two to three times a year is then recommended: without it, the benefit gradually fades. The physician adjusts this protocol after assessment.
Is it painful?+
The anaesthetic cream applied twenty to thirty minutes beforehand makes the session entirely tolerable. The scalp is more sensitive than the face.
What are the contraindications?+
Blood diseases, clotting disorders, cancer under treatment, active infection, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anticoagulant therapy requires prior assessment.
Is there any risk of allergy?+
No, because the product comes from your own body. This is the treatment's main safety argument.
