Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation can increase breast volume and adapt breast contour to goals defined with the surgeon. The technique, implant type and implant position are selected individually after medical assessment.
The treatment
What is
Breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to increase breast volume and modify breast shape using breast implants. It may be considered when a patient wishes to gain volume, address asymmetry, restore fullness after pregnancy or weight changes, or achieve proportions she considers more harmonious.
During consultation, the surgeon assesses body shape, skin quality, chest width, existing breast volume and the patient's expectations. Implant type, volume, shape and position are selected individually. The surgeon also explains the possible incision sites and implant positions, including placement in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, depending on anatomy and the surgical plan.
The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia. As with any surgery, breast augmentation carries risks and possible complications, including bleeding, infection, scarring, changes in sensation, asymmetry, capsular contracture, implant displacement or rupture, and the possibility of further surgery. Breast implants are not lifetime devices and medical follow-up is required.
Recovery varies according to the technique and the individual patient. Discomfort, swelling and bruising may occur during the first few days. The result develops progressively as tissues heal and the implants settle into position. The decision to proceed with surgery is made after a complete medical consultation, personalized information and assessment of possible contraindications. Realistic expectations and alternatives are also discussed before any decision.

How it works
The treatment
process.
Before surgery
Consultation with the surgeon clarifies the goals, examines the breasts and helps select suitable implants. Medical history, treatments, allergies and risk factors are assessed. Additional examinations may be requested depending on age and clinical circumstances. The patient receives instructions regarding medication, smoking, fasting and arrangements for returning home.
During surgery
Breast augmentation is performed in an operating room, generally under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision using the approach selected during consultation and creates a pocket for the implant. The implant may be positioned in front of or behind the pectoral muscle depending on anatomy and the selected technique. After checking symmetry and bleeding control, the incisions are closed. A dressing and, when appropriate, a postoperative support bra are applied.
After surgery
Pain or tightness, swelling and bruising may occur. Pain medication and scar care should be followed as prescribed. Strenuous activity, heavy lifting and some sports are temporarily restricted. Follow-up appointments are used to monitor healing and the implants. Unusual pain, fever, significant redness or a sudden increase in the volume of one breast should prompt contact with the medical team.
