Brow Lift

A brow lift raises a lowered brow and can create a more open eye area while improving some forehead and frown lines. Treatment is tailored to the patient's anatomy, hairline and goals, with incisions positioned to help keep scars as discreet as possible.

What is
Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to raise lowered eyebrows and improve the appearance of the upper third of the face. Over time, the skin and tissues of the forehead can loosen. The eyebrows may descend, create heaviness over the upper eyelids and make the eyes look tired, sad or stern. A brow lift aims to reposition these tissues according to the patient's anatomy and goals.

Several surgical techniques are available. An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions hidden in the hair and a camera to guide tissue repositioning. Other approaches may use an incision at the hairline, within the scalp, at the temples or, in selected cases, directly above the eyebrow. The choice depends on factors such as brow position, forehead height, hairline, skin quality and the desired result.

The procedure can improve brow drooping, some horizontal forehead lines and frown lines between the eyebrows. It does not necessarily replace upper eyelid surgery when significant excess upper-eyelid skin is present, and the two procedures may sometimes be combined after medical assessment.

A consultation with a qualified surgeon is essential to confirm whether the procedure is appropriate, discuss alternatives, choose the technique and explain possible scars. As with any surgery, a brow lift has risks, including bleeding, infection, unfavorable scarring, asymmetry, temporary or persistent changes in sensation, hair loss near the incisions, eye dryness or irritation and, more rarely, nerve injury. The result looks more natural as swelling decreases. Ageing continues after surgery, and no specific result can be guaranteed.

Why choose this treatment

  • Raises sagging eyebrows and may reduce heaviness over the upper eyelids
  • Can soften some horizontal forehead lines and frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Technique is selected according to anatomy: endoscopic, temporal, hairline, coronal or direct when appropriate
  • Results become more natural as swelling settles, without stopping the normal ageing process

How it works

The treatment
process.

01
Before

Before surgery

Before surgery, a medical consultation assesses brow position, hairline, eyelids, medical history and expectations. Photographs may be taken. Follow instructions about medicines and supplements carefully; products that can increase bleeding may need to be stopped only on medical advice. Stopping smoking is recommended. Arrange transport home and, if requested, an adult to stay with you for the first night.

02
During

During surgery

On the day of surgery, the surgeon makes the planned markings and the selected anesthesia is given. Depending on the technique, small incisions are made within the hair, at the hairline, at the temples or close to the eyebrow. Forehead tissues are released and repositioned to elevate the brow; some muscles that contribute to frown lines may also be adjusted. The incisions are then closed with sutures, clips or other suitable methods. A dressing and, less commonly, a drain may be used.

03
After

After surgery

After surgery, swelling, bruising, tightness or numbness are common. Keep your head elevated and avoid strenuous activity for the period recommended by your surgeon. Sutures or clips are removed when appropriate. Initial wound healing often takes 10 to 14 days, although swelling and sensation may continue to change for several weeks. Follow wound-care instructions and attend follow-up visits, and contact the medical team promptly if you develop unusual symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

What you'd like
to know before your session.

Who is a brow lift suitable for?+
It may be considered for a healthy person with lowered brows, upper-eye heaviness or some forehead lines, provided expectations are realistic. The consultation confirms whether surgery is appropriate and reviews factors that may increase surgical risk.
Is the result permanent?+
Surgical repositioning can provide a long-lasting improvement, but it does not stop ageing. Tissues will continue to change over time. Sun protection and a healthy lifestyle may help maintain the appearance of the result.
Are the scars visible?+
All surgery leaves a scar. Depending on the technique, incisions may be hidden in the hair, placed at the hairline, at the temples or close to the eyebrow. Scars usually improve as they mature, but they cannot be guaranteed to become invisible.
When can I return to normal activities?+
Initial healing often takes 10 to 14 days. Many patients can return to non-physical work around this time, depending on recovery. Exercise and strenuous activity should resume only when the surgeon considers it safe.
What are the main risks?+
Risks include bleeding, infection, unfavorable scarring, asymmetry, changes in sensation, hair loss near incisions, eye irritation or dryness and, more rarely, nerve injury. Revision surgery may occasionally be required.
Brow lift or blepharoplasty?+
A brow lift mainly treats brow position and the forehead. Blepharoplasty mainly treats excess eyelid skin and/or fat. Careful assessment determines whether one procedure, or a combination, best matches the anatomical concern.
