The treatment

What is
Breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to increase breast volume and modify breast shape using breast implants. It may be considered when a patient wishes to gain volume, address asymmetry, restore fullness after pregnancy or weight changes, or achieve proportions she considers more harmonious.

During consultation, the surgeon assesses body shape, skin quality, chest width, existing breast volume and the patient's expectations. Implant type, volume, shape and position are selected individually. The surgeon also explains the possible incision sites and implant positions, including placement in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, depending on anatomy and the surgical plan.

The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia. As with any surgery, breast augmentation carries risks and possible complications, including bleeding, infection, scarring, changes in sensation, asymmetry, capsular contracture, implant displacement or rupture, and the possibility of further surgery. Breast implants are not lifetime devices and medical follow-up is required.

Recovery varies according to the technique and the individual patient. Discomfort, swelling and bruising may occur during the first few days. The result develops progressively as tissues heal and the implants settle into position. The decision to proceed with surgery is made after a complete medical consultation, personalized information and assessment of possible contraindications. Realistic expectations and alternatives are also discussed before any decision.

How it works

The treatment
process.

01
Before

Before surgery

Consultation with the surgeon clarifies the goals, examines the breasts and helps select suitable implants. Medical history, treatments, allergies and risk factors are assessed. Additional examinations may be requested depending on age and clinical circumstances. The patient receives instructions regarding medication, smoking, fasting and arrangements for returning home.

02
During

During surgery

Breast augmentation is performed in an operating room, generally under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision using the approach selected during consultation and creates a pocket for the implant. The implant may be positioned in front of or behind the pectoral muscle depending on anatomy and the selected technique. After checking symmetry and bleeding control, the incisions are closed. A dressing and, when appropriate, a postoperative support bra are applied.

03
After

After surgery

Pain or tightness, swelling and bruising may occur. Pain medication and scar care should be followed as prescribed. Strenuous activity, heavy lifting and some sports are temporarily restricted. Follow-up appointments are used to monitor healing and the implants. Unusual pain, fever, significant redness or a sudden increase in the volume of one breast should prompt contact with the medical team.

Frequently asked questions

What you'd like
to know before your session.

What is breast augmentation with implants?+
It is a surgical procedure designed to increase breast volume by placing implants. The plan is personalized according to anatomy, existing tissues and expectations discussed with the surgeon.
How is implant size selected?+
Selection is not based only on a volume in milliliters. The surgeon considers chest width, breast base, skin quality, existing volume and the desired result. Sizing trials or simulation tools may sometimes complement the consultation.
Where are the implants placed?+
Depending on anatomy and the selected technique, an implant may be positioned in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, or using a technique that combines different tissue planes. The surgeon explains the option suited to each situation.
What scars should be expected?+
An incision is required to insert the implant. Its location depends on the selected technique. Scars evolve over several months and their final appearance varies with individual healing.
What are the main risks?+
Possible complications include bleeding, infection, healing problems, changes in sensation, asymmetry, capsular contracture, implant displacement or rupture. Further surgery may be required. The surgeon explains individual risks before the operation.
How long do breast implants last?+
Implants should not be considered lifetime devices. Monitoring is required, and replacement may become appropriate if a complication occurs, the breast changes, or the clinical situation evolves. Recommended follow-up is explained by the surgeon.
When can I return to sports?+
Return is gradual. Light activities can generally resume before strenuous exercise, but timing depends on healing, surgical technique and the type of sport. The instructions given during postoperative follow-up should be followed.
How much does breast augmentation cost?+
The surgery is provided upon quote. The amount is established after consultation because it depends on the surgical plan, implants, anesthesia and care arrangements.
