Rosacea and Couperose
The treatment
What is
Rosacea and Couperose?
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face. Typical signs include persistent redness, sudden flushing, visible blood vessels and, in some cases, inflammatory papules and pustules. Burning, dryness or eye involvement may also occur. Couperose mainly refers to permanently dilated and visible blood vessels on the face.
Treatment is tailored to your individual symptoms. Depending on the condition of the skin, options may include medicated creams, anti inflammatory medication, an adapted skincare routine and laser or IPL treatments. The aim is to control inflammation, reduce redness and visible blood vessels, and help prevent further flare ups.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
During a dermatological examination, your symptoms, skin condition and possible triggers will be carefully assessed. Any eye symptoms, previous treatments, skincare products and current medications will also be considered. An individual treatment plan will then be created. Before laser or IPL treatment, intense sun exposure, tanning beds and irritating skincare products should be avoided according to your physician’s recommendations.
During the treatment
The treatment is tailored to the specific skin changes present. Inflammatory symptoms may be treated with prescription creams or tablets. Laser or IPL treatment may be used for persistent redness and visible blood vessels. The light energy is selectively absorbed by the enlarged blood vessels, while the skin is protected and cooled throughout the treatment. A session usually takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
After the treatment
After laser or IPL treatment, the skin may temporarily feel warm and appear red or slightly swollen. Use gentle skincare products and apply a high level of sun protection every day. Exercise, sauna, heat, intense sun exposure and known personal triggers should be avoided during the first few days. Continue using prescribed medication as directed by your physician. Follow up appointments allow the treatment plan to be adjusted if necessary.
