Mole Removal
The treatment
What is
Mole Removal?
Moles can be removed for medical, functional or aesthetic reasons. Treatment may be appropriate if a mole changes, is repeatedly irritated or is considered cosmetically bothersome.
Before removal, the mole is carefully examined by a dermatologist. Depending on its size, location and characteristics, it may be completely removed through surgery or treated with a superficial shave removal. The outpatient procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. If the mole has medically suspicious features, the removed tissue is sent to a laboratory for histological examination.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
The mole is examined by a dermatologist and, if necessary, with a dermatoscope. We assess whether removal is appropriate and which method is most suitable. Please inform us about any medical conditions, allergies and all medications you are taking. Blood thinning medication should only be adjusted after consultation with your physician.
During the treatment
The skin is disinfected and locally anaesthetised. Depending on the findings, the mole is then completely excised or removed superficially. If necessary, the wound is closed with fine sutures and protected with a dressing. Any medically suspicious tissue is sent for microscopic examination.
After the treatment
You will receive individual instructions on wound care and when the dressing may be changed. The treated area should be kept clean and protected from friction and tension. If sutures were used, they will be removed after several days, depending on the area of the body. Consistent sun protection helps the scar heal as discreetly as possible.
