Food Intolerance
The treatment
What is
Food Intolerance?
Recurrent abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea or nausea after eating may indicate a food intolerance. Common causes include lactose intolerance and fructose malabsorption. Other conditions, such as coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome or a genuine food allergy, can cause similar symptoms.
A careful medical assessment helps identify possible triggers and avoid unnecessary dietary restrictions. Depending on your symptoms, this may include a food and symptom diary, targeted blood tests, breath tests or a medically supervised elimination and reintroduction phase. Based on the results, an individual treatment and nutrition plan will be created.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
If possible, keep a record of the foods you eat and when symptoms occur for one to two weeks. Bring any existing medical reports and an up to date list of your medications. Do not eliminate multiple foods from your diet before the appointment without medical advice, as this can make diagnosis more difficult and lead to an unbalanced diet. You will receive separate preparation instructions for certain tests.
During the treatment
During a detailed consultation, we will discuss the type, timing and frequency of your symptoms, as well as any possible connection with specific foods. Depending on the suspected cause, targeted blood tests, breath tests or a temporary elimination diet may be recommended. We will also assess whether a food allergy or another medical condition could be responsible for the symptoms.
After the treatment
Based on the results, you will receive personalised dietary recommendations. Suspected foods will only be restricted as much as medically necessary. Controlled reintroduction can help determine the amounts you can tolerate. If more extensive dietary changes are required, specialist nutritional advice can help ensure a balanced intake of all essential nutrients.
