Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)
The treatment
What is
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the eyelids. Excess skin and, if necessary, unwanted fatty tissue on the upper or lower eyelids are carefully removed or repositioned. This can correct drooping upper eyelids and under eye bags. The eye area appears more open, refreshed and rested, while preserving the natural facial expression.
Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both areas at the same time. The procedure is usually carried out under local anaesthesia and can be combined with light sedation if required. In cases of pronounced drooping upper eyelids, surgery may also improve a restricted field of vision.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
Before your blepharoplasty, you will have a personal consultation and a thorough examination of your eyelids. We will discuss your expectations, any pre existing medical conditions and the most suitable treatment method. Please inform us about all medications you are taking. Blood thinning medication should only be adjusted after consultation with your treating physician. Before the procedure, you will receive personalised instructions regarding food, drink, skin care and travel arrangements.
During the treatment
Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia and can be combined with light sedation if required. The incisions are placed as discreetly as possible along the natural eyelid crease or close to the lash line on the lower eyelid. Excess skin and unwanted fatty tissue are carefully removed or repositioned. The fine incisions are then closed. Depending on your individual needs, blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both areas.
After the treatment
Temporary swelling, bruising and a mild feeling of tightness may occur after blepharoplasty. Regular cooling and sleeping with your head elevated can help reduce swelling. During the first few days, you should avoid physical exertion, rubbing your eyes and direct sunlight. The sutures are usually removed after a few days. Initial results are generally visible after one to two weeks, while the final result develops over the following weeks and months.
