Skin Infections
The treatment
What is
Skin Infections?
Skin infections can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. Possible signs include redness, itching, pain, swelling, blisters, weeping areas or crusts. As different skin conditions can appear similar, a careful dermatological assessment is important.
Following the examination, treatment is tailored to the suspected cause. Depending on the type and severity of the infection, topical or oral antibiotics, antiviral medication or antifungal treatment may be used. If necessary, a skin sample or swab may be taken to identify the pathogen more precisely.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
During a personal consultation, we will discuss when your symptoms began, how they have progressed, possible sources of infection, existing medical conditions and any medications already used. Existing treatments should not be stopped without medical advice. Please also inform us about any allergies and, if possible, bring an up to date list of your medications.
During the treatment
The affected skin is carefully examined. If the cause is not immediately clear, a swab, skin scraping or small tissue sample may be taken and analysed in a laboratory. You will then receive treatment tailored to the suspected or confirmed pathogen, along with advice on protecting the skin and preventing the infection from spreading further.
After the treatment
Use the prescribed medication exactly as directed and for the recommended duration, even if your symptoms have already improved. Keep the affected skin clean, avoid scratching and do not share towels or skincare products. If your symptoms do not improve, become worse or if side effects occur, you should seek medical advice.
