Psoriasis and Eczema
The treatment
What is
Psoriasis and Eczema?
Psoriasis and eczema are inflammatory skin conditions, but they differ in their causes and treatment. Psoriasis is a chronic immune mediated condition. Typical signs include clearly defined, red and scaly patches of skin. The nails and joints may also be affected.
The term eczema covers various inflammatory skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. Common symptoms include dry, red, itchy or weeping skin. A dermatological examination helps to identify the exact condition and initiate individually tailored treatment.
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment options may include medicated skincare, anti inflammatory creams and light therapy. More severe cases may require systemic medication or biologic therapies.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
During a personal consultation, we will discuss when the skin changes began, how they have progressed and any possible triggers. Please inform us about previous treatments, skincare products, allergies and medications you take regularly. If psoriasis is suspected, nail changes, joint pain or morning joint stiffness are also important indicators. Photographs of previous skin changes can be helpful.
During the treatment
The dermatologist examines the skin, scalp and nails and assesses the type and severity of the condition. If necessary, further tests may be carried out, such as a skin biopsy, a fungal test or an allergy test. An individual treatment plan is then created, which may include skincare, topical medication, light therapy or systemic treatment.
After the treatment
Use the prescribed medication and skincare products according to your treatment plan. Regular follow up appointments help assess the effectiveness of the treatment and allow adjustments where necessary. Blood tests may be required when using systemic medication. New joint symptoms, rapid deterioration or signs of a skin infection should be assessed promptly by a physician.
