Atopic Dermatitis
The treatment
What is
Atopic Dermatitis?
Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. Typical symptoms include dry, sensitive skin, intense itching and recurring red or weeping eczema. It is caused by a combination of genetic predisposition, an impaired skin barrier and an irregular immune response.
Treatment is tailored to the patient’s age, the affected areas of skin and the severity of the condition. Options include a consistent skincare routine, anti inflammatory creams or ointments and, if required, light therapy. Moderate to severe cases may be treated with modern systemic medications or biologic therapies. The aim is to relieve symptoms, shorten flare ups and prevent further inflammation.
How it works
The treatment
process.
Before the treatment
During a personal consultation, we will discuss when your symptoms began, how they have progressed and any possible triggers. We will also consider previous treatments, skincare products, allergies, medications and the impact on your sleep and daily life. Photographs of previous skin changes can be helpful. Existing treatments should only be changed or paused after consultation with your physician.
During the treatment
The skin is carefully examined and the severity of the atopic dermatitis is assessed. We then create an individual treatment plan that includes suitable basic skincare and anti inflammatory medication. For more severe cases, light therapy or systemic medication may be discussed. Allergy tests or further examinations are only carried out if the medical history indicates a specific concern.
After the treatment
Use skincare products and medication exactly as outlined in your agreed treatment plan. Daily basic skincare should be continued even during periods with few or no symptoms. At follow up appointments, we assess your progress and adjust the treatment if necessary. If your condition worsens rapidly or you experience pain, weeping areas, yellowish crusts or fever, you should seek prompt medical attention.
